It is an honor for me to welcome you to a historic moment for our global community of dam engineers and experts. In 2026, Mexico will be the proud host of the International Congress on Large Dams (ICOLD).

INVITATION FROM THE PRESIDENT, ICOLD

Dear distinguished ICOLD Members, Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Board of the International Commission of Large Dams (ICOLD) and my behalf, it is a great honour for me to invite the esteemed delegates, specialist, and accompanying persons from the National Committees of 107 member countries to the 94th Annual Meeting and Symposium, ICOLD 2026 being held from the 22nd to 29th May, 2026 in the beautiful city of Guadalajara, capital of the western Mexican state of Jalisco. Guadalajara is known for tequila and mariachi music, both born in Jalisco. It is located in the heart of Mexico and offers rich and unique cultural heritage and natural wealth.

Mexico has over 5000 dams under operation including major dams like Angostura, Chicoasén, Malpaso, and Peñitas. The Mexican National Committee is a very strong Committee and it has been member of the ICOLD since 1956. I am looking forward to an exciting and memorable ICOLD 2026 Annual Meeting based on the successful past Annual meeting organized by the Mexican National Committee in 1976. They have prepared a wonderful program for the delegates and their accompanying persons. The expected outcomes of ICOLD 94th Annual Meeting and Symposium on “Dams for People, Water, Environment and Development” will certainly be indispensable for the global dam community to discuss and deliberate on emerging professional issues..

I invite you all to come to the ICOLD 2026, in Guadalajara, Mexico, not only to discuss the emerging professional topics, but also to meet friends in ICOLD family. I am confident that Comité Mexicano de Grandes Presas (Mexican Committee) will arrange a high-quality technical content for the meeting along with unforgettable social and accompanying persons programme. I’m looking forward to extend a warm welcome to the ICOLD family - friends, new-comers and accompanying persons in May, 2026 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
