LA YESCA DAM
The dam and hydroelectric plant is located on the banks of the Rio Grande de Santiago in the municipalities of La Yesca, Nayarit, and Hostotipaquillo, Jalisco. It has a capacity to generate 750 megawatts of electricity with a reservoir of approximately 1.392 billion cubic meters.
The project will be part of the Rio Grande Santiago hydrological system, formed by the Aguamilpa and El Cajón dams, and during its construction, 5,000 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs were created.
Thus, the two projects will generate a combined 4,300 megawatts, adding to the country's current 12,000 megawatts. One of the five tallest dams in the world, along with the Nurek dam in Kazakhstan, at 300 meters high, and the Grand Dixense dam in Switzerland, at 285 meters.
